The formula behind the calculation

If you enter fuel efficiency in km/l or mpg, the tool automatically converts it to the domestic standard of l/100 km to ensure accurate calculations:

• km/L → L/100 km: 100 ÷ value
• mpg (US) → L/100 km: 235.214583 ÷ value

The cost of the trip is then calculated using the formula:

• Liters of fuel = (distance in km × l/100 km) ÷ 100
• Fuel cost = liters × price per liter
• Total cost = fuel cost + toll fee (if included)

or in short:

• Fuel used = Distance × Consumption ÷ 100
• Trip cost = Fuel used × Price per liter

What Affects Actual Fuel Consumption

The figure specified by the manufacturer rarely matches actual fuel consumption on the road exactly. The most common factors that increase it are:

• Aggressive driving — sudden acceleration and braking increase fuel consumption by up to 20–30%;
• Highway speed — above 120 km/h, fuel consumption increases nonlinearly;
• Car load — luggage, cargo, towing a trailer;
• Air conditioning and heating — especially during short-distance city driving;
• Tires — low tire pressure or worn winter tires in the summer;
• Engine condition — old air filter, delayed oil change, etc.
